Christiane and Josefin
A conversation between two spinners
This is a replay of an online talk with Christiane and Josefin that was streamed live on April 15th 2023. It is a conversation between the friends, spinners and spinning teachers Christiane Seufferlein and Josefin Waltin. Under the theme local fibers we discuss how we started spinning in the first place, what our main focus is in our teaching and how we work to inspire our students to work with local fibers. Welcome!
Your Instructor
I am a spinner and natural dyer, define myself as fibercrazy and love history. My location is rural Austria, where I explore textile crafts and traditions that have been lost already or will be gone soon.
2017 I became proud owner of three sheep to help with our mowing. My ladies produced beautiful fleeces and I could not let those go to waste. So I started spinning and a littke later teaching workshops. A lot of other textile related crafts follwed. By now I have to trad really carefully to not fall down the next textile rabbithole.
A huge part of my work circles around the history and people behind the craft. I love to listen to and learn from the older generation in my region who tell me about flax and wool production, farming tradition and daily life. I feel I can only appreciate what I do fully by embedding into the history of my region.
